kowloon walled city_cross section
Amazing diagrams of the infamous Kowloon Walled City in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Illustrating the density of a site previously used as military fort/outpost turned architecturally organic, maze-like, ungoverned, living district of 33,000 residents or more in its 2.6 hectare borders. The maze housed not only families, but also a source of brothels, drugs, and gambling activity. It has since been demolished and turned into a public park, but remnants of its past history like the South entry gate remain.
