sweet trifecta

20120215-075939.jpg Sweet Italian treats from Eataly complimented the home cooked butternut lasagna last night. Tiramisu w/nougat (left); apple tart (top); semifreddo (right).

Decadent and light at the same time. Just perfect!

blood orange salad

20120215-074819.jpg Just had this really delicious salad recently at P.J. Clarke's that I want to start making on my own. It consisted of spinach, butter lettuce, blood orange slices, spiced pecans, and goat cheese with a blood orange vinaigrette and topped with a home made crouton.

So simple, but so good!

moving day

In 1886, a contractor in Los Angeles claimed he could move the Fort Moore High School by hoisting it on top of scaffolding and use people, rollers, and horses to slowly migrate it to its new location. It unfortunately proved to be too difficult and had to be lowered back to the ground midway through the move. I wish they left it on the scaffolding. These are really great images.

baffles and bastions

These approaches for baffled entryways really should be implemented more often. In particular, Serpentine and Labrinthine. I will have to start implementing these in designs.

20120122-092823.jpg Some exterior and interior detail shots of Morimoto'sfrom my recent restaurant week visit. Designed by one of my favorite architects, Tadao Ando.

The wind was really whipping the entry curtains. Worth a visit if you get the opportunity to eat there. It's a little bit of a splurge so save for special occasion. Located at the end of Chelsea Market in New York.

restaurant week_morimoto

20120122-090839.jpg

20120122-090902.jpg [Iron Chef] Morimoto always has his restaurant week menu only available on weekdays at lunch so its hard to attend if you work. Finally this year I went because of the MLK Jr. holiday. Delicious and delectable. The black cod bento box w/ sushi, tempura, salad, and miso soup is the best and I chose a berry panna cotta for dessert which was equally as satisfying.

soup dumplings

20120122-082310.jpg

20120122-083118.jpg The tastiest morsel of food to warm you up on a cold day. If you are ever in Flushing, go and get some of these little steamed soup dumplings filled with soup and meat. Sooo delicious! Also try the scallion pancakes with beef.

It is right off the Main Street subway stop on the 7 train (last stop on the line).
